- A Georgia State University professor wants his students to text message during class. Business professor David McDonald is using a new program that allows students to post questions on an overhead projector screen via text message during lectures. Students send the questions in a text message and the questions appear like a news ticker at the bottom of the PowerPoint presentation.The questions are screened before they are posted. McDonald said he got the idea during an Atlanta Thrashers hockey game, where fans can text greetings and other messages to appear on the scoreboard during the game. McDonald contacted Atlanta-based FanDriveMedia, the company that created that technology, to see if it could be used in classes. The program is being piloted in about 15 business classes this year.
