Welcome to txtQuest - Educational applications for the 21st century
Mobility for today's classroomsThe traditional view of education is changing as rapidly as technology. Students no longer need or want to be tethered to the classroom. Education is changing. As always, the challenge for instructors is how to best communicate with their audience. The view of many educators is to ban the technology which is part of the life experience of the student. Rather than ignoring the existence of technology, the txtQuest application suite engages the student to make the classroom a relevant experience. One in which fosters active learning.
TQS™ - The Text Questioning System
"Students
won't raise their hands." TQS has been designed
as a solution toward an alarming trend...students
fail to ask questions in class. There are many
reasons for not engaging students in the classroom.
The cultures of many international students consider
questioning a professor disrespectful. Some students
are simply shy. While still others don't think of a
question until well after the material has been
covered. Whatever the reason, the Text Questioning
System is available to students 24 hours a day, 7
days a week.
Text Message Broadcasts
Texting
is the way students communicate. The text broadcast application allows an
instructor to send a broadcast text message to all students in a class.
Texting is overtaking email as the communications media of choice by the
millenial generation. Broadcasting ensures your students "get the
message."
Trivia Contest
What
better way to engage students than to make learning
fun! The Trivia Contest module permits instructors
to start each class with one or more review
questions. Students text in answers and the first
three correct answers "win" prizes...usually in the
form of extra credit participation points. The
Trivia Contest brings out the competitive spirit in
individuals or teams while simultaneously making
learning fun.
Tug-of-war
Debate
can be a powerful teaching tool. Having students engage in a discussion by
taking opposing sides can not only be fun, but also informative.
Experienced nstructors playing the "devil's advocate" can sway student by
creating an engaging dialectic. Tug-of-war lets students vote for one side
of an argument or another. An interactive display shows the votes cast in
real-time.
Multiple Choice
Based
on "clicker" systems currently used by many schools,
the Multiple Choice module brings the same concept
into the 21st century. Students use their mobile
device to select from multiple choice answers to an
instructor's question. Students' mobile devices
provides a financially viable solution to the costs
and infrastructure typically associated with clicker
systems. Moreover, with the old-style response
system, instructors found themselves having to take
an active administrative role in tracking and
retrieving the hardware devices. With txtQuest's
system, the only device required is the students'
mobile devices. There are no servers, hand-held
devices, or software to maintain.
The genesis of txtQuest resulted from a collaboration between a successful
internet service provider and a large southeastern university.
